This is a four-day, three-night sightseeing tour in the region of Kakheti. Kakheti is famous for its wine culture and beautiful vineyards. During this tour, guests will also visit three different protected areas and national parks within the region.
David Gareja & Sighnaghi
Day 1 - The first day includes sightseeing in the David Gareja area, known for its unique semi-arid landscapes and the famous Rainbow Mountains. David Gareja is located near the border with Azerbaijan. Due to its proximity to the border, some monasteries are unfortunately not accessible.
The drive to David Gareja is very scenic and can be done either via Sagarejo or Rustavi. The journey from Tbilisi takes approximately 90 minutes.
The highlight of this area is the Rainbow Mountains, which offer truly otherworldly landscapes. Guests will enjoy a short walk among the colorful hills and visit the Lavra Monastery which dates back to the 10th century, although the history of the David Gareja complex as a whole goes back much earlier. The name of the area comes from the Assyrian monk David, who came to Georgia in the 6th century to preach and spread Christianity.
After the walk and monastery visit, the tour continues to a small family-owned winery, where guests will enjoy a winery tour, wine tasting, and lunch.
Following lunch, the journey continues to the charming town of Sighnaghi, which overlooks the Alazani Valley, Georgia’s main wine-producing area, located between the Greater Caucasus Mountains and the Gombori Range. Sighnaghi offers beautiful views, excellent wineries, and cozy restaurants. In the evening, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy wine and dinner with a stunning panoramic view.
Vashlovani National Park
Day 2 - The second day starts early with a drive toward Vashlovani National Park. First, guests will arrive in Dedoplistskaro to obtain the necessary permits, as the park is located close to the Azerbaijani border. Vashlovani is a very diverse and beautiful protected area with several possible routes, one of which will be selected depending on conditions and timing.
After receiving the permits, the drive continues to the Shiraki Valley, a vast open landscape where wheat is cultivated. The valley is beautiful in every season. Here, guests will visit an abandoned Soviet-era airport, an interesting historical site featuring an old runway, aircraft hangars, and even a Soviet military jet.
From there, the tour continues to Pantishara Gorge, which leads to the wide and impressive Samukhe Valley. Samukhe serves as the winter pasture for sheep herds coming from the Tusheti mountains. The dry landscapes here are dramatic and unique. The valley is also home to Caucasian gazelles, and with some luck, guests may be able to spot them.
The journey then continues to Mijniskure, a beautiful spot on the banks of the Alazani River. After exploring the area, guests will return either to Sighnaghi or Dedoplistskaro for the night.
Lagodekhi National Park
Day 3 - Day three begins either from Sighnaghi or Dedoplistskaro, depending on the chosen overnight location. The road continues to Lagodekhi National Park.
Lagodekhi is a very beautiful subtropical area with lush green forests, mountains, and rivers. Guests will have the opportunity to hike to either the Ninoskhevi or Rocho waterfalls, depending on preference and fitness level. Alternatively, it is possible to relax at the hotel and enjoy the swimming pool.
Dinner and overnight stay in Lagodekhi.
Kvareli & Return to Tbilisi
Day 4 - On the final day, the journey continues from Lagodekhi to Kvareli. Guests will visit the Kvareli Wine Tunnel for wine tasting, as well as take part in a churchkhela and traditional bread-making masterclass.
After Kvareli, the tour continues to either Telavi or Napareuli to visit a family-owned winery for another wine tasting and a delicious homemade lunch.
After lunch, the tour concludes with the return drive to Tbilisi.
